Short-term (1 year): joy of feeling "free" to do anything you want; "released" from the World's grasp on you.
Long-term (5 years): Your skills and knowledge stays the same or becomes outdated, thus you can only do so much to help change the world into a better place. Limited.
Very long-term (10 years): You become Unneeded. Not only by the World, but your family and friends. No one needs you who cannot contribute much to the World/ country. You become an excess in other people's life. Your gf/wife do not need you. In fact, she might be pulled down into depression following someone who is 'useless' in this World. No one needs you. In fact, you are a burden to everyone. You die a lost, lonely, man who wasted his unlimited potential to idleness and sin.
