Passion defined

Ask a dozen people what passion actually means, and you're likely to get a dozen answers. Over the course of my work, I've come up with a simple definition of my own.

Passion is the energy that comes from bringing more of YOU into what you do.

Simply put, it's being who you are and doing what comes naturally. It's like allowing water to gain energy from flowing along its natural riverbed, rather than trying to force it up and over a mountain.

It's a theme I return to often, but it's worth repeating. The energy differential is huge between doing a job that is really an extension of who you are, and a job where you have to wear a mask day in and day out.

The focus of my work - and this blog - is helping people first identify the key elements of "who they are" - i.e., their Passion Core (sm) - and then create careers based on that.

You may have noticed that there have been few updates of the "Next Blog" feature (in which I click the Next Blog tab on Cellar Door and report what my cohorts in BlogWorld are up to) .

Stuart:

Well.. first thing is to ensure that my mind is firmly attached.

Inside, it’s just a simple thing to experience what I feel and process that for a moment. I then realize what’s important to me, hold on to that, then proceed to seek a higher understanding of the other person’s intentions.

At the end of the day, I know that there will be much more than just anger or frustration. I also like to put myself into a playful mode - that helps me take things with a pinch of salt.

time is nothing but an amotion.

i see.

in the past 2.5 years , having allowed myself to indulge most of the time in fear, pain, loneliness and depression in the Army and post ngee ann, the two main ways i got through them was to escape through unconsciousness and self-gratification.

sleep, masturbation, impulsive buying, internet surfing and watching videos dipicting other people's lives; with the first two being the most addicted to.

being able to escape from all your painful emotions from fear and feeling the all high from physical self-gratification was more than satisfaction for me to escape.

but no more. this Life God gave me ain't worth living this way. through Him, He forgave us for our sins. so we have no Fear living in it and we shall continue to love and love always.

thus, everyday, i indulge in my all powerful emotions of love in learning new and useful things, studying my business subjects, believing, knowing and acting a bit more like Jesus everyday, and acting upon realising my dream which would bring His command "love your neighbour as yourself" to a whole new scale.

what is time? by t. robbins

When we ask this question, the kinds of answers we get are, "Time is something we measure by a calendar or clock," or "Time is a measurement of activity."

Webster's Third New International Dictionary defines time as "a period during which something exists or continues."

None of these definitions, however, really explain what time is to us.

Time is nothing but an emotion or feeling: It's a way of looking at a moment, or at life, that produces an emotional state within us.

Think about it. How do you know how long something really takes other than by how it feels? If you are doing something that doesn't fulfill you, then a minute can seem like an eternity, can't it? Similarly, when you love what you're doing and you are totally engrossed in it, time can fly by. It literally ceases to exist.

The bottom line is that time is completely driven by emotion. There is a big difference in how you experience it if you are walking around stressed vs. if you are spending the moments of your life doing things that really matter to you.

So, while there is no more physical time for any of us, there is a lot more time for what really matters to you. The RPM system is designed to help you set up your life so that you experience time in a whole new way-a way that keeps you consistently fulfilled.

saw my dad's graduation photos in his album for a MBA. though quiet and seemingly solemn, in my heart i was full of pride for him. i guess living in this asian context for more than 10 years takes some time to rid of it, i was too shy to say congrats. huh huh.

shall make my grandad and dad proud of me in 2010 and 2009!

i promise you, ye ye, that i will be like Mr Lee if not more. i'll devote at least 80% of my wealth for the development of the world's future: the children.

Lenz the man of God

as my good friend pointed out in my COMMS presentation yesterday that I was a little nervous and lacking in the confidence department, i've always doubted myself in changing environment and people. but i forgot one thing: Jesus was always the same regardless of where or who was around him.

i shouldn't need to fear, for I am the Man I've always strived to be. 3 years of hard work in analysing my mind and more than 3 months of great soul-searching and emotional rewiring has made me into the person I've longed to be. God set the standards, not Man.

I'll only be a better man everyday from here on.

My analytical talent, spiritual wisdom and control of my emotions, all to serve the Lord through my Life to the People i love, will let me fly through SMU, the Business, Politcal and the rest of the real World.

where there is a hole created by the absence of God, there should exist nothing. instead, Man has made himself another god to worship: the God of Fear. masses of men, instead of asking their own hearts about the things they truly want to do to help change the world to a better place, has copied each other for Fear they'll not survive. the God of Fear was thus created to own the hearts of men seeking money and labels for its own materialistic worth.

instead of working for the God of Love, men amany has chased after the God of Fear in Fear that he will lose what little securities he has.

q: What in the world is Lenz talking about?

a: everyday i enter the MRT train, i look into the sad faces of my people and they tell me, they're mostly going to work, not because they love what they're doing, but because of the money. instead of working for their passions, they work for the existence of money in their life. love is not their motivation, money is. once the money the is gone, so are their hearts.

when i enter SMU, all i see are students slaving for the A+. why are they studying what they are studying? what are they presenting? do they truly understand the purpose of the subjects aside from adding shine to their resumes? all i see are students who live and study in Fear that they'll fall from the grace of the A grade, not from the Passion of learning.

these two groups of people, everyday, worshiping the God of Fear. how blind their spirits have been to the beauty of unconditional Love. of the beautiful commandment that we should love our neighbours as ourselves. they live in their own model of the world, ignorant of what is out there, to touch their spirits and what needs them.

Here are some general comments (by Ms Lowlj):

1. The business world emphasizes professionalism. This includes ensuring an error free piece of work. Do make the effort to find out the correct format for a business letter [subject, salutation, punctuation, sign-off etc] and how to write addresses. This is the simplest task and the lack of effort indicates sloppiness. Names must be spelt correctly and designations must be correct to show respect to your reader.

2. There was an overall inability to fully develop reasons and solutions that were relevant to the Botanic Gardens e.g. simply stating that retirees can’t afford car park fees is not enough. The letter must go on to say that this will result in a drop in visitor numbers. The Botanics is interested in visitor numbers not the welfare of retirees.

3. When providing solutions be aware that some of them do not solve the problem but merely alleviate the problem. e.g. proposing that charges be imposed only from 12 noon does not solve the problem of having to pay for car park in the morning.

4. Finally, language and grammar needs to be improved. Please do make a real effort to work on this. Weak grasp of language affects the ability to communicate. You must read beyond your academic textbooks. Even fiction like the Da Vinci Code will help.

The WARRIOR symbolises the INDOMITABLE SPIRIT, the WILL, to do WHATEVER IT TAKES to accomplish his dreams.

Truly, the warrior will only give up when he knows he is defeated: in most cases a death match.

i remember clearly now, it was the undying DETERMINATION in all my 3 years @ Ngee Ann Polytechnic that pulled me through the tough times. i was still developing my strategy to present, to study effectively and fight head-to-head with my pain, and if it were not for the DETERMINATION to reach what i had envisioned; a CERTIFICATE OF MERIT, i would not have entered SMU today.

Dammit, it was PURE HARD WORK & DETERMINATION.

really regretful and deeply saddened that i didnt complete my part of the blaw project on time. i asked to delay the meeting by one hour and we couldn't do the rehearsal at all.

so in terms of the planned agenda, because of me, we accomplished less than 50%. 25% for my part, 25% for the rehearsal.

my classmates' hard, cold, "i don't know anything don't ask me cos' i'm pissed @ you" faces told me their disappointment.

Lessons Learnt:

-a man for his words, a man for his actions. gave my word to complete, i didn't. planned out to finish by the meeting, i didn't. i understand the root cause was that i still felt more pain in studying and pleasure in not facing the "stress". however, i didn't take action right there and then, still PROCRASTINATING. haha, in place, i created more inspiring thoughts and blogged it. still, right thing @ the wrong time. important and not urgent in place of urgent stuff. regrets are not worth living in and for.

-right here and now. once given, i shall fulfil it. just as God would do. my actions, and my word. all to love what i do, want to do and shall do. for the people i love.

-Mummy, Lord Jesus and Mother Mary, be my witnesses:

• I'm a man of my words. What i promise and say, i shall fulfil in my actions.

if i'm ever in need to criticize my friends, peers or classmates for the PURPOSE to let them be aware of their mistakes and weaknesses, i shall be BRUTALLY HONEST to the TRUTH. no need to hide, no need to disguise.

truth hurts, i felt it today, and i SHALL CHANGE.

an EDUCATION is one of the best INVESTMENTS:

2. high yield (knowledge + wisdom)
3. making use of the brain to become a much better person to help contribute to the world!

passionate can be quite a cliche of a word. many people say but are not really aware of how they can simply be like that too.

i'm PASSIONATE in every ACTION & WORD i say because they simply come from my inner LOVE to do it.

my project to acheive Valedictorian status and as an official strategic educator is only part of what i can do for the children of this world and their subsequent generations.

its a grain of sand compared to what Jesus has done for all man: regardless of religion, colour, gender, age, language or race.

he suffered and died so that every sin in our life would be taken away; be forgiven.

the essence of the 7 deadly sins is that it gives you the illusion of living for love and pleasure while its result is simply fear, pain and immense sadness.

Sin tears you away from Love. Sin tears you away from God.

i hope and pray this school doesn't eventually lose this culture of a spirit to what is around it.

NARUTO: INDOMITABLE SPIRIT

i remember, i first heard about the phrase, "indomitable spirit", when i was learning tae-kwon-do, P6 in primary school.

of cos, not bothering to look up words i didn't know, i had no idea what it meant.

only later in secondary school, now reinforced, i understood it as having a strong spirit to overcome life's challenges.

and as a catholic, i understand it as the ultimate faith.

faith, spirit, the will to change the world and protect and save the people around you, all come from: LOVE.

you can't measure these, you can't give a grade to them and you certainly can't tell by looking at a person, for they are from his/her heart.

and of cos, it can't be scientifically broken down. haha. not for the next 1000 years.

People say NARUTO is just a cartoon character?

tell them, they're right, he isn't real, but he possesses a spirit most men do not have. the spirit to overcome all crap and underestimation that the environment and people throw at them.

a spirit which a group of people recognises because of their openess, their yearning to reach the ideal, that most men lose when they grow up.

who is this group of people?

kids, children.

everyday, i learn so much from NARUTO.

FAITH

truly, the FAITH from an undying INDOMITABLE SPIRIT who faces, tackles hard and overcomes all UNCERTAINTIES in the FUTURE gives the person the POWER [e.g. $, political, reputation] and RIGHT [e.g. courage, perseverence] to make a CHANGE in this WORLD.

FREE WILL

God gave us the will to love what we do.

Do it because you want to.

Do it because its your free will.

Don't do it because you're compelled to.

Don't do it because the system coerces you to.

Cos' you'll be doing it in pain and fear instead of pleasure and love.

The ultimate ingredient in any success is that the person LOVES to do what he DOES.

The 3 pains Jesus suffered for me on the cross (3 nails mah)

Purpose: to take away what’s dividing us and God, cos’ he loves us so much.

One big nail pierced and left through each limb, left to bleed slowly:

1. Sins
2. Ignorance
3. Fear and Hate

Next time u wanna sin: somebody knew u were gonna do it and to take away the sin that was dividing you and God, he experienced immense physical pain that all Man would do to avoid so that you the rift between you and God when you sinned and are going to sin will be closer.

So, you still tempted not?

Because God loves us so much to give us freedom and free will, we have the CHOICE to LOVE OR HATE. We can choose to LOVE or FEAR.

Don’t misuse this will. Use it to LOVE. The things you do; everyone around us who is in need of our love.

GROWING UP

in these two months since the end of POE 1, i've grown up more than i've done in these two years i've given to the Army. my thoughts are mostly in this blog.

i've used much of my time in the recesses of my mind re-wiring my emotional controls, essential beliefs and value definitions. some consequences as an SMU student have been suffered.

haha, having grown up to this level of mentality (and still growing up more), i feel more like an adult now. a grown-up, a man, an entrepreneur, a leader.

the only part of me that'll never change is the fact that i'll fight for love until i die and i'll never give up! thats my word as a MAN!

2. how do i become a more LOVING and GIFTED person? how do i make better use of them?

Thus, everyday i ask myself as God's TRADER,

how do i MAXIMISE the VALUE i get in return for investing my time and money in my current activities? what can i learn from every single activity to grow as a human being?

as a physical being, i'm only limited to a ONE, if not a few, ACTION at any one TIME. thus, time is used up / being traded while i'm engaged in any action.

thus, for this action which I am doing now:

1. am i doing what i really love (e.g. exploration of possible interests is the beauty of schools!)? why am i doing this?
   
2. is this activity helping me grow in spirit and wisdom (which lasts for a lonngg time) or simply a physically pleasurable activity (which is short-lived)? do i learn at least one good thing from it or is it simply useless (e.g. consistent masturbation through pornography)?
3. am i doing it right? my way, my strategy?
   

for if you answer the above questions right, you are on your way to success in love and life!

a GREAT GPA score is an EXCITING INDICATOR and AFFIRMATION that i'm on my way doing what i TRULY LOVE to do: LEARNING about a subject i love. an accomplishment that says: "great! you're doing what you love and you are doing it right! keep it up and improve on it!"

please, in a helpful manner, its not an end in itself (e.g. a good job or resume). it is only an indicator or affirmation. Like a thermometer, it tells us of our love level for what we are learning and whether we are doing it right.

join a religion. (recognised ones please, not satanism). for love cannot be affirmed by science alone and religions are in fact the ones who stand by it through time.

why i hardly join CCAs

towards the end of my poly education and in SMU, i hardly join CCAs.

to me, CCAs are a way of exploration of what you really love. a discovery of new interests.

guess what? i've found my passion! passsssiiiionnnn.....

1. public speaking / motivating / teaching / sharing
2. building businesses!
3. stock market!
4. jogging!
5. gym gym gym!
6. eating!
7. cooking!
8. sailing (haven't done it yet but mmm mmm !)!
9. learning and thinking!
10. so many more!!!!

anyway, i found much of it in the real world, not in my schools... no difference in passion level, but just a different way of exploration.
