Here are some general comments (by Ms Lowlj):

1. The business world emphasizes professionalism. This includes ensuring an error free piece of work. Do make the effort to find out the correct format for a business letter [subject, salutation, punctuation, sign-off etc] and how to write addresses. This is the simplest task and the lack of effort indicates sloppiness. Names must be spelt correctly and designations must be correct to show respect to your reader.

2. There was an overall inability to fully develop reasons and solutions that were relevant to the Botanic Gardens e.g. simply stating that retirees can’t afford car park fees is not enough. The letter must go on to say that this will result in a drop in visitor numbers. The Botanics is interested in visitor numbers not the welfare of retirees.

3. When providing solutions be aware that some of them do not solve the problem but merely alleviate the problem. e.g. proposing that charges be imposed only from 12 noon does not solve the problem of having to pay for car park in the morning.

4. Finally, language and grammar needs to be improved. Please do make a real effort to work on this. Weak grasp of language affects the ability to communicate. You must read beyond your academic textbooks. Even fiction like the Da Vinci Code will help.
